The high-profile getaway car used by Jennifer Saunders as Eddy and Joanna Lumley as Patsy in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie has been put on show at Beaulieu.

Still oozing glitz and glamour, Eddy and Patsy are living the high life they are accustomed to and shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspot. But when they accidentally push Kate Moss into the River Thames at an uber fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm surrounding the supermodel’s untimely demise. They flee penniless to the glamorous playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, and hatch a plan to make their escape permanent and live the high life forever.

The Piaggio Ape, which has come straight from the film set to Beaulieu, is featured in a key scene as Eddy and Patsy make their bid to escape from the police trying to track them down.

The getaway car makes its debut at Beaulieu in time for the red carpet international premiere of the film on Wednesday (June 29th) and its UK release on Friday (July 1st).

It will join the celebrity, TV and film greats in On Screen Cars at Beaulieu, alongside Elvis’ Cadillac, Del Boy’s Reliant Regal from BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses, the flying Ford Anglia from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Wallace and Gromit’s Anti-Pesto Van.

Excitement has been building towards the much anticipated launch of the star-studded Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, which stars Julia Sawalha, Jane Horrocks and June Whitfield in the storyline’s first cinematic adventure alongside returning cast members Kathy Burke as Magda, Helen Lederer as Catriona, Harriet Thorpe as Fleur, Celia Imrie as Claudia Bing, Mo Gaffney as Bo, Chris Ryan as Marshall and Emma Bunton and Lulu as themselves. In true Ab Fab style, the cast is also joined by a host of stars from the acting, music and fashion worlds.

The Piaggio Ape can be seen in On Screen Cars as part of a visit to the whole Beaulieu attraction, which includes the National Motor Museum, the World of Top Gear, the 13th century Beaulieu Abbey and grounds and Palace House, which has been home to the Montagu family since 1538.
